Our first race of the season came around very quickly, and we have lots of new stuff to share!
Our first piece of news – we are delighted to say our Championship Series 2024/25 is being sponsored by Skinner’s! We look forward to awarding our Competitors with prizes of their working dog foods, treats and energy bars, and to sampling some of their new products.
We kicked things off at Brechin – a course that's not for the faint-hearted! We had to alter the start chute from what we ran at our last race at Brechin, which meant bringing us into the infamous terraces from a different angle; we think everyone who competed this time round agrees it was preferable to the original start! It was a cold, dry weekend, and the course wasn’t as muddy as previous seasons. This was our first racing using our new trail markers, supplied by John Young Signs Ltd, Rosyth, we think you’ll agree, they look great ....just wait to see them lit up in the night stages!!
After racing on Saturday, we introduced our new activity “The Pawpack”!!! This is soley for the baby members who are too young to take part in our competitive classes. Everyone loved seeing the wee ones having so much fun with their furry family members. We had some special gifts for them taking part, as it was Halloween, and they received some sweets in Halloween boxes, supplied by McB Made Me. A few people were in the spirit and dressed for the occasion, we do love a race with a dress-up theme!
There were some competitive times on the course, and some people racing at this venue for the first time, fastest round the course on Day 1 was an incredible 7:30.37 by Cameron Pack and his DR6NB (6 Dog Nordic Breed Team). The same Competitor then went on to achieve an epic 7:15.63 on day 2 resulting in the fastest combined time of the weekend. Cameron’s time on day 2 was closely followed by (and when we say close, we mean CLOSE!) Competitor Roddy Milne who ditched his Halloween costume for some competitive racing on Sunday and completed the trail in DBM (1 Dog Open Bike) in a time of 7:15.73. Well done, guys! Those times are incredible!
Our first Race at Brechin also gave us the opportunity to play our new, fun and exciting game - “The Wheel of FURtune”. This game is for our Members and a chance for them to receive extra prizes! It will be played at every race we hold this season.
The winners of our first wheel spin were Lisa and Cameron, congratulations 😊
Congratulations to our members who have travelled to Haughley Park to race at the WSA World Championship this weekend (23rd & 24th November) We hope you all have had a great time.
Our next race is Darnaway, on 7th & 8th December, this will be a new course in a different part of the forest – watch out for the direction signs on arrival. Thank you again to Skinner's for their sponsorship, prizes from Brechin will be available to collect at Darnaway.
