Race 6: Ford Proudly Sponsored by Skinner's Dog Food - SDAS Championship Series

ree

Back at our beloved Ford Estate for Race 6 of the season, and this time—no storms in sight! With the trail from February’s popular night stage proving such a hit, we brought it back for the full weekend. A fast and technical 2.1-mile course with tight turns and thrilling flow meant racers and spectators were in for a treat.

As the penultimate race of the season, it didn’t disappoint. The weather was (dare we say it?) kind, with crisp starts and no rain all weekend! An earlier start time on both days helped keep things cool for the dogs, and the trail was in near-perfect condition.

Saturday – Day 1

Day 1 brought some incredible performances across the board, with racers pushing hard and dogs flying down the trail. Joe Hickman laid down a lightning-fast 6:37, the quickest time of the weekend—an amazing effort on such a technical course. Roddy Milne also impressed, being the only other team to go sub-7 minutes in DBW. Speed and skill on show all round!

But the standout moment? It has to go to Cameron Pack, who started the race on 4 wheels and finished on 3—after losing a wheel mid-run! A jaw-dropping display of skill, determination, and trust between musher and team. Hats off to you, Cameron!

Saturday Afternoon – Pawpack Power!

After our main classes wrapped up, the Pawpack took over the start shoot. This time, our future mushers opted for a canicross-style loop near the start line—and they absolutely LOVED it. Energy, laughter, and some serious determination from our youngest racers. It’s safe to say they didn’t want to stop, and neither did their dogs! The Pawpack continues to be the heartwarming, high-energy highlight of our weekends. 💜 #SDASfam

The evening saw racers and crew unwind in the mild weather—warm drinks, good chat, and plenty of dog cuddles. A perfect end to a great day.

Sunday – Day 2

Day 2 kicked off with a cool morning and slightly warmer temps creeping in later, so our team kept a close eye to ensure dogs and mushers stayed safe and cool. Once again, racers turned up the heat on the trail—many improving on their Saturday times!

And somehow… Cameron Pack did it AGAIN. He started Sunday’s run on a spare three-wheeled rig and finished on just two wheels after another mid-run malfunction. That’s right—two days, two rigs, two wheel malfunctions, and he still claimed 1st place in DR6. Unreal. Someone get this man a sponsorship from a wheel manufacturer!

Double Prizegiving = Double the Celebrations

With Race 4’s prizegiving postponed due to weather, this weekend we celebrated both events in one big Ford finale. Loads of smiles, well-earned podiums, and of course, some brilliant prizes from our amazing sponsor, Skinner’s Dog Food.

A huge congratulations to all our 1st to 3rd place finishers—and a special cheer for Jamie Stevenson, who spun the Wheel of FURtune and took home the big prize!

Massive thanks once again to JP’s American Smokehouse, keeping us fuelled with mouth-watering brisket and sausages all weekend, and to Horses for Courses Photography for capturing the action beautifully.

Another phenomenal weekend with the SDASfam, and now… just one race left in the 2025 Championship Series: Brechin Finale, March. You won’t want to miss it!

Until then, Your SDASFam 🐾💜
